Thesis Proposal Structural Depth Proposed in this report is a structural redesign of the existing steel structure to a concrete two-way flat slab system. The goal of this redesign is to create a more efficient lateral system by replacing the fifty existing braced frames with concrete moment frames. This change is aimed to allow for easier construction at lower costs, while allowing for smaller floor-to-floor heights. Impacts on the foundation and vibrational effects are also proposed areas of study.
Breadth I - Cost and Schedule The change proposed in the depth study will impact the overall cost and construction schedule of Orange Regional Medical Center. This breadth study explores each of these for comparison purposes.
Breadth II - Architecture In the case that shear walls may need to be added, the floorplans of this building may be impacted architecturally. This breadth study explores that possibility in addition to the impacts on the brick facade and windows. Floorplans are also redesigned to address occupant concerns.
